Mesh

Wi-Fi Mesh architecture breaks long networking distances into a series of shorter hops with intermediate nodes to increase Wi-Fi coverage area along with network redundancy. Intermediate nodes not only increase the signal coverage area but cooperatively make forwarding decisions based on the routing protocol. The coverage area of the radio nodes working as a single network becomes a ‘Wi-Fi Mesh cloud’. This mesh-cloud is a Self-forming and Self-healing network architecture offering high performance, versatility, reliability and resilience.

Proxim’s proprietary ORiNOCO® Mesh Creation Protocol (OMCP) enables the mesh network to be flexible, auto-forming, self-healing while dynamically adjusting traffic routing as and when new APs are added or removed, without the intervention of network administrators. This unique self configuring networking protocol provides for high speed 802.11n mesh backbone links between mesh Access Points (root and intermediate) without any user intervention.

ORiNOCO® Public Safety Wi-Fi Mesh Series product line features a unique dual-radio architecture supporting both 4.9GHz public safety and 2.4GHz metropolitan Wi-Fi networks. The 4.9GHz band enables dedicated broadband network access to Public Safety and being a licensed spectrum, there is no interference from other wireless broadband operators. Seamless mesh connectivity at speeds up to 200kmph empowers the First Responders with instant access to information anywhere for improved efficiency and responsiveness. These mesh networks can be configured to quickly locate users and their activity to provide personnel tracking or asset tracking information.

Proxim’s Mesh features:
  • Proxim’s proprietary mesh protocol ORiNOCO® Mesh Creation Protocol (OMCP) powers the mesh networks to offer performance, versatility, resilience along with high reliability
  • ORiNOCO® Wi-Fi Mesh Series products feature dual-radio architecture supporting both 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks
  • ORiNOCO® Public Safety Wi-Fi Mesh Series also feature dual-radio architecture supporting both 4.9GHz public safety and 2.4GHz metropolitan Wi-Fi networks
  • Dual-radio architecture: Mesh backhaul and Wi-Fi coverage on one radio, while the second radio is used exclusively for Wi-Fi coverage
  • Data, Voice and Video are delivered over Wi-Fi to the edge of the network over a flexible, auto-forming, self-healing, near line-of-sight mesh backbone

Proxim’s mesh network architecture has evolved from the original single radio to multi-radio offering dedicated radios on each end of the link. This architecture allows for a unique frequency to be used for each wireless hop making it a high performance mesh link without any bandwidth degradation. Proxim´s ORiNOCO® Wi-Fi Mesh Series products feature a next-generation IEEE 802.11n dual-radio architecture supporting both 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks; Mesh backhaul and Wi-Fi coverage on one radio, while the second radio is used exclusively for Wi-Fi coverage. This dual radio architecture enables exceptional latency and bandwidth delivering Data, Voice and Video over Wi-Fi to the edge of the mesh network at speeds rivaling wired ethernet.
